On September 11, 2001, America suffered the worst terrorist attack on its soil in its history when al-Qaeda hijacked four airliners and deliberately crashed them into the World Trade Center towers in New York City, the Pentagon in Arlington County, Virginia, and a field near Shanksville, Pennsylvania. To this day, I still wonder how I feel about the horrific events of that day: do I feel angry at the terrorists who killed almost 3,000 people in New York City alone? Do I feel optimistic that there will be peace and prosperity ahead of us?

1. Shock

It has been 16 years since one of the most tragic days in US history. We all know what happened, so there is no need for a reminder. It was a time when my life drastically changed because it was going on during my senior year of high school, and it shaped how we viewed the world as high schoolers. Like others at that age, we didn't understand everything that was happening- but it still affected us because we were hearing about it everywhere around us- especially through media outlets like the Internet and TV.
